Man kills self in Rusk domestic dispute

RUSK, TX (KTRE) - A man is dead after shooting himself following a domestic disturbance call in Rusk Tuesday afternoon, according to a family member.

Cherokee County Sheriff James Campbell said a woman called dispatch from Joplin Street saying her husband threatened her with a gun and also threatened to kill himself.

Rusk Police Chief Jamie Campbell said police arrived at a home and found a man dead with a single gunshot wound. His wife was on the property. The man was in his 70s.

The chief would not speculate on a cause of death and said the body has been sent off for an autopsy. But the man's daughter, Lola Atkinson, said he shot himself.
