LUFKIN, TX (KTRE) - Catholic Schools Week came to a close this morning at St. Patrick Catholic School, but the morning mass was uniquely special.
State Representative Trent Ashby, R-Lufkin, and Lufkin Mayor Bob Brown joined the children and staff of the school as well as members of the community to celebrate the church's 60th anniversary.
Ashby presented a flag to the school on behalf of the state as a token of gratitude to the school's overall service to the East Texas community.
"It's just a real honor for me to be here celebrating 60 years, and on behalf of the state of Texas, thank you for what you all do," Ashby said. "Hopefully, we will be back in 40 more years to celebrate a hundred years of service to this community, so thank you."
Following the mass, students of the school gave gifts to their guests and speakers. Teachers and staff were also recognized, for their dedication to St. Patrick's Catholic Church.
