CROCKETT, TX (KTRE) -

Investigators with the Crockett Police Department are investigating a firearm theft that occurred at the town's Walmart on January 31.

Surveillance video shows the suspect using an object to break a gun case and then steal a Bushmaster AR-15 rifle before he fled the store. According to a press release, Crockett Police officers were dispatched out to the Walmart store located in the 1200 block of East Loop 34 in reference to a stolen rifle at approximately 8:52 p.m. Saturday.

When the CPD officers looked at the surveillance video footage from the store, it showed a white man wearing a red shirt, a dark-colored jacket, blue jeans, and a baseball cap enter the store at 8:45 p.m. Saturday. In the footage, the suspect enters the store and walks to the sporting goods section.

After he made several passes through the area looking for store employees, the suspect went behind the counter and tried to open the sliding door to the gun case with both hands.

When that didn't work, the man shown in the surveillance video came out from behind the counter and used an object to break the glass, according to the press release.

The suspect grabbed a Bushmaster AR-15 rifle and left the store via a fire door that was located near the sporting goods section, the press release stated. He then ran around the back of the store and got into a gray or silver late-model Crown Victoria. According to the press release, the suspect did not take any magazines or ammunition for the AR-15.

Police believe that the robbery was planned beforehand.

"We have recovered fingerprints from the scene. We also have some DNA, we just need some help looking to see if somebody knows this guy," said Crockett Police Chief David Cross
