The Nacogdoches Memorial Hospital chief medical officer has died.

Dr. George Hugman III died Monday, according to Kim Barton, a spokeswoman for Nacogdoches Memorial Hospital. Barton could not confirm where or how he died because of Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA) regulations.

Several of Hugman's co-workers at the hospital said he came in and started the day Monday morning by giving a friend a hug, and he collapsed while he was making his rounds. Nurses and hospital staffers gathered in an impromptu prayer meeting in honor of Hugman and his family later Monday.
