LUFKIN, TX (KTRE) - A man and a woman were arrested on burglary warrants Monday evening. The arrest came after law enforcement were tipped off about the duo's whereabouts.
According to the Angelina County Sheriff's Office, 18-year-old Haley Marie Hollingsworth from Zavala and 23-year-old Zachary Benjamin Mallon from Lufkin had a warrant out for their arrest for a burglary they committed in the Huntington area recently. The arrest was made around 9:30 p.m. at the Executive Inn & Suite located at the 100 block of Harmony Hill.
"We received a tip that the two were staying at the Executive Inn & Suites," said Capt. Alton Lenderman with the Angelina County Sheriff's Office. "When our deputies arrived on the scene they noticed one of the suspect's vehicle parked outside of the motel. The Deputies then approached the room where the two were believed to be in."
He said a deputy then used the knock and talk tactic.
"Our deputy knocked on the door to get the suspects to come out. Hollingsworth opened the door and our deputy immediately recognized her," Lenderman said.
The two were arrested for a second degree felony of burglary of a habitation.
Upon their arrest, Lenderman said deputies found a couple of stolen items in the room and a small amount of meth in Mallon coat pocket.
Mallon was also arrested for possession of control substance, a warrant issued by DPS for evading arrested, and a warrant issued by Lufkin Police Department for theft of a fire arm.
Mallon and Hollingsworth are being held in the Angelina County Jail. They bonds have not been.
