ANGELINA COUNTY, TX (KTRE) - GE has released information indicating it will lay off 330 workers as early as March 26, according to the Worker Adjustment and Retraining Notification website.
The notice is filed with TWC because under certain circumstances, the Worker Adjustment and Retraining Notification (WARN) Act requires you to provide notice 60 days in advance of plant closures or mass layoffs. The WARN Act is intended to offer protection to workers, their families and communities.
In late January, GE officials announced the company's plans to lay off employees at Lufkin Industries' Buck Creek manufacturing facility. Laura Bauer, the communications manager for GE, said in a previous East Texas News story that the company has notified the relevant governmental agencies and unions of employees who could possibly be impacted. They would not, however, comment on a number of layoffs or a possible date.
The WARN website confirms the figures, which were released on Jan. 26.
