NACOGDOCHES, TX (KTRE) - Despite the Hotel Fredonia's closure, the hotel occupancy tax revenue for the last quarter of 2014 is encouraging.
The hotel occupancy tax revenue increased by 8 percent when compared to the same quarter in 2013, which equates to $13,000 more in revenue. Last year, the annual tax yielded more than $716,000 in annual revenue. More than 72 percent of it funds the Nacogdoches Convention and Visitors Bureau.
The improved performance comes on the heels of a consultant recommendation to place more emphasis on marketing.
Jannette Sparks, Nacogdoches Convention and Visitors Bureau Marketing Director-"More targeted advertising and working with our partners throughout the community, to really reach the out of town visitor," said Jannette Sparks, the marketing director for the Nacogdoches Convention and Visitors Bureau.
The first quarter of 2015 looks promising. In the coming weeks and months, there will be a Main Street Directors convention, a music festival, a film festival, two botanical conventions, plus azalea attractions will attract visitors to Nacogdoches.
