Now that the storm has passed, many people are filing insurance claims for damages.
Some insurance agents in East Texas were out at 6:30 Thursday morning checking out homes and cars damaged by the storm. Calling an agent is one of the first things you should do if there's any type of destruction to your property. You should be prepared for the big storm even before it destroys your home or car. Knowing what type of coverage you have can save you big bucks in the long run.
Farmers insurance agent, Ronnie Jackson, says, "If the car's damaged in a situation like this, it would come from the car insurance. The house insurance is not going to cover your car. So make sure you have comprehensive."
Jackson says it doesn't take long to file a claim. It can usually be done by phone.
