Communities Come Together After Storm Rips Through Angelina County

Carolyn Tinkle's home was damaged by storm. She said, "I heard a terrific wind and the lights went out. And just as quickly as it had come, it left."

But it wasn't until the next day when Carolyn discovered how bad the wind was. In mere seconds, the wind toppled trees and even threw a steel building that was outside several feet. As fast as the storm caused the devastation, the community reacted.

Carolyn said, "I didn't call anybody, they just started hearing about it and they started coming. It's just amazing all the people that have been out here today and how hard they've worked and how much they've accomplished today."

Family members came out to help Carolyn's neighbors. With chainsaws, they cut apart the tree that fell on their house, amazingly causing no damage.

Carolyn wasn't so lucky. Broken windows and a torn roof allowed so much rain water to come in, the insurance adjuster nearly fell through the ceiling while looking at the damage. Despite the damage, Carolyn is thankful for all the help from the community.

Carolyn said, "you came without me even asking. Thank you, I can never repay you for what you've done today."

People working on the house were too busy to speak with us on camera. They simply said she needed the help, so they came.
