Lufkin man injured in 18-wheeler rollover accident

A 25-year-old Lufkin man suffered minor injuries when his 18-wheeler rolled over on US Highway 190 one mile east of the Jasper-Newton County line early Thursday morning.

According to a press release from the Texas Department of Public Safety, the accident occurred at about 4:50 a.m. Stinson Thomas was driving a 2005 Mack tractor-trailer rig east on Highway 190 when he went off the road.

When Thomas overcorrected, the 18-wheeler overturned and its load spilled, the press release stated. The DPS troopers who investigated the accident "suspect that the driver may have fallen asleep at the wheel," said Trooper Stephanie Davis, a DPS spokeswoman.

Thomas was transported to the Jasper Memorial Hospital with minor injuries. He was treated and released a few hours later, according to the press release.

Thomas was given a ticket for failure to drive in a single lane, the press release stated.

At this time, the eastbound lane of Highway 190 is still closed because workers are clearing the debris from the roadway.
