A report on ABC's 'Primetime Live Program' Thursday night is getting attention from people using health clubs to exercise. That report warned gym visitors how the warm, moist areas of gyms are a perfect breeding grounds for germs, viruses and bacteria.
That's why responsible gym owners take extra measures to keep their equipment as clean as possible. But with so many users you need to be responsible too.
Court Club owner/manager Jim Carey says, "We keep a pretty close eye on all of our equipment when somebody uses it. One of the staff wipes it down. We try having the client wipe it down and still all they have to do is come by and get a wipe and do their own equipment."
Other things you can do to reduce the risk of infection include using separate towels to wipe perspiration and equipment, wearing 'shower shoes' and washing your hands after using gym equipment.
