ANGELINA COUNTY, TX (KTRE) - An Angelina County construction company is the latest to feel the sting from the oil and gas industry and has announced a round of layoffs Wednesday.
Tim Johnson, owner of T&B Construction Services, stated in an email Wednesday that several of their clients have reduced projects and have delayed completion schedules.
"This is an unfortunate situation and we hate it that it will impact some of our employees and their families," Johnson stated. "We are hoping that the industry will recover soon and production levels will rebound."
Business Manager Greg Burkett said 20 workers are being laid off. The business employs up to 80 people.
Burkett said the business does fabrication and pipework and all clients are in the oil and gas industry.
"The hits just keep on coming," County Judge Wes Suiter said. "PineCrest Energy will be starting up construction pretty soon. Hopefully they'll be able to accomodate all these workers. That's about a three-year project. Within that time, maybe we'll rebound in the oil and gas industry."
