LUFKIN, TX (KTRE) - Lufkin police officers arrested a 43-year-old man on two outstanding felony warrants out of Lea County, New Mexico on Wednesday. Owners of home located off of the 1700 block of Old Station Road heard strange noises coming from an abandoned barn in their backyard. They were surprised to find a man sleeping inside.
When police arrived on the scene, they ran the man's name and found that he was wanted for two felonies in New Mexico.
William Eugene Pope, of Lufkin, is still being held in the Angelina County Jail on a third-degree felony failure to appear for criminal sexual penetration charge and a third-degree felony aggravated assault with a deadly weapon. No bail amount was available as of 11 a.m.
According to Lt. David Young, a spokesman for the Lufkin Police Department, LPD officers went to check on Pope. When they checked for outstanding warrants, they found that he had two outstanding warrants out of Lea County, New Mexico.
