The Nacogdoches swim team had their state send off Thursday which included waving off freshmen Jesse Stovall.
The 14-year-old currently holds the school record in the 50 meter freestyle, clocking in at 24.57 seconds. Stovall will be competing in the same race going into state, and she isn't intimidated one bit competing against the best in the state as a freshmen.
“I think I'll be able to handle it. I think it will be crowded and a lot more intense than other meets, but I think I'll be able to cope,” said Stovall.
“She is a competitor and she wants to win. That's why it's awesome to be her coach and see that in her,” said head swim coach Carrie Scroggins. “She works hard, and she's sweet. The girls are just as excited she's going to state as she is and so it made for a great year. She wasn't expecting this, but I think we all knew in the back of our minds this was a possibility and she's going to have a great time.”
The preliminaries will be Friday with 16 swimmers. The top eight will compete in the finals Friday.
