NACOGDOCHES COUNTY, TX (KTRE) - Nacogdoches High School waved their swim team off to state Thursday, as freshmen Jessie Stovall and their 200 medley relay team are heading to Austin.
The relay team consists of junior Dean Lamont, junior Davis Pierce, Junior Gunner Smith, and senior Christopher Nett.
These four have been swimming as a team for just two weeks now, as they were recently assembled right before regionals.
They placed second at regionals with a personal record of 1: 40.11, a time they feel confident with going into state.
"We're always really good because Chris gets us off to a great start with his back stroke. When you see him in there and he goes more than halfway across the pool and he's ahead of everybody else, that gets you pumped up," said Pierce. "I think a lot of our success is also due to the fact that we just all work really hard and that definitely carries to how we perform out there."
The preliminaries will be Friday with 16 swimmers. The top eight will compete in the finals Friday.
