Special Olympics Texas held its East Texas Basketball Tournament at Stephen F. Austin in Nacogdoches on Saturday.
Teams from all over East Texas participated in individual skill competitions and three-on-three and five-on-five team games. Organizers were impressed to see the athletes be competitive and show sportsmanship, but they were most excited to see how much fun they were having.
"The smiles that you see on the faces of our athletes, the enthusiasm, the high fives, it's just a very good energy and feeling," said Special Olympics Texas staff member Anthony Key. "It's very pleasing and carefree, but there is still the spirit of competition as well."
Special Olympics Texas will be back in Nacogdoches in April for cycling and track and field competitions.
