An early morning accident in Lufkin sent a man to jail on intoxicated assault charges after a 2-year old suffered a fractured skull.

Lufkin Police say 52-year-old Preston McKenzie was involved in the accident near the intersection of Timberland and Atkinson early Saturday morning. An officer witnessed the accident and while checking it out, noticed McKenzie take a swig of mouthwash and then throw it in the seat next to him near a can of beer.

McKenzie was arrested and later charged with intoxicated assault after the child was found to be injured in the accident. Police say the report is unclear whether the child was in McKenzie's car or another car involved in the accident.
