SHELBY COUNTY, TX (News Release) - A 23-year-old Tenaha man died as a result of injuries he suffered in a two-vehicle accident on US Highway 96 about six miles north of Center Saturday night.
According to a press release from the Texas Department of Public Safety, Daurin Andres Chel-Sanchez was pronounced dead at a Center hospital at 7:34 p.m.
The preliminary accident investigation revealed that Chel-Sanchez was driving a 2005 Ford Mustang south on US 96 when he hydroplaned, slid across the highway, and struck a northbound 2006 Pontiac Grand Prix driven by Eduardo Antonio Perez, 19, of Center, at about 6:40 p.m., the press release stated.
Both drivers were transported to a Center hospital for treatment of their injuries.
The accident is still under investigation.
