TRINITY COUNTY, TX (KTRE) - An Apple Springs man has died in a two-vehicle wreck after he swerved to avoid wrecking into a propane truck on FM 357 in Trinity County Saturday night.

"The entire wreck played out like a movie screen in front of my eyes," said Julie Brown, a witness of the accident.

Travis Jefferson Tullos, 74, died at the scene, which was about two miles north of Apple Springs, at 6:01 p.m.

According to the DPS report, Tullos was driving a 1996 Chevy pickup northbound on FM 357 at 5:35 p.m. He approached a broken-down vehicle in the road that two people were trying to move from the road. One vehicle, a propane truck, was behind the broken-down one and the other was off the road on the opposite side. Tullos steered to the left to avoid hitting the northbound vehicles and left the road to the left and hit the 2015 Ford truck. Tullos, who was not wearing a seatbelt, was ejected from the truck.

"With his braveness and alertness, I know that he died trying to save our lives," said Brown.

Tullos's friends say he loved music and playing pool.

Funeral services for Tullos will be on Thursday at Calvary Church in Nogalus at four p.m.
