Crockett PD: Man found slumped in car may have died from overdose

CROCKETT, TX (KTRE) - A 34-year-old man was pronounced dead of an apparent drug overdose after he was found slumped over in a car late Sunday morning, according to the Crockett Police Department.

According to a press release, the man was identified as Rafael S. Whitting.

At approximately 11:36 a.m. Sunday, Crockett police officers were dispatched out to W.M. Batts in reference to a man being slumped over in a car. When the CPD officers arrived on the scene, they found Whitting in the driver's seat of a white 2004 Chevrolet Malibu.

Whiting was unresponsive. A short time later, Crockett Fire Department first responders and East Texas Medical Center arrived on the scene, and started life-saving measures. Whitting was transported to the ETMC-Crockett emergency room, where he was later pronounced dead.

The investigation by the Crockett Police Department revealed that there were no outward signs of trauma on Whitting's body. Investigators also learned that Whitting may have unintentionally overdosed on some kind of drug, the press release stated.

Crockett PD detectives are conducting a full investigation into Whitting's death.
