POLK COUNTY, TX (KTRE) -

Two people have died following a two-vehicle wreck which shut down southbound lanes on US 59 in Polk County.

The two people who died in the accident were identified as Susie Anna Granger, 45, of Lufkin, and Shuna Latrice Carter, 41, of Nacogdoches.

According to the Texas Department of Public Safety, troopers responded to the wreck on US 59, one mile north of Livingston. The initial report states the driver of a 1989 Peterbilt towing a 1988 Nabors pole trailer with logs was broken down in the outside southbound lane and he was outside the truck trying to warn oncoming traffic of the the vehicle.

A 2012 Dodge Caravan driven by Granger was also southbound on US 59 and struck the back of the trailer. Carter was a passenger in the minivan, and both women were pronounced dead at the scene by Polk County Justice of the Peace Larry Whitworth.

The southbound lanes of US 59 have been reopened, according to Trooper David Hendry, a DPS spokesman.
