SAN AUGUSTINE COUNTY, TX (KTRE) - Firefighters have stopped the gas leak that evacuated about 50 people in San Augustine County.

According to Fire Chief Stephen Hays, a gas tank over pressurized causing the tank to release gas into the air. The accident did not lead to any injuries.

A viewer reported that a vapor cloud can be seen in the sky in the San Augustine area, and San Augustine ISD Superintendent Virginia Liepman confirmed that there was a possible oil well blowout and that firefighters responded to the scene.

Officials have since cleared residents to return back to their homes now that the gas is dissipating.
