On Friday, Houston County Judge Erin Ford has announced that a committee has narrowed down their search for a new EMS provider, Alabama-based "LifeGuard."
Ford told KTRE, "This company has superb service. I am certain that they will be a good fit for the county. I think the process that lead up to this has been good to us."
This announcement comes just over two months after "East Texas Medical Center EMS" announced they would be ending their exclusive agreement with the Houston County on March 14th.
Ford added that the deadline with ETMC EMS has been extended to March 28th. The extension would give the commission enough time to finish their contract with "LifeGuard."
The service doesn't affect the Grapeland area, which has a separate EMS service.
The committee will meet again late next week to figure out the full details of the new contract.
