ANGELINA COUNTY, TX (KTRE) - Deputies with the Angelina County Sheriff's Office have arrested a Zavalla man accused of shooting a rifle at his wife and adult stepson after getting in an argument over a messy room Tuesday night.
Ronald Carlton Smith, 65, of Zavalla, is charged with aggravated assault with a deadly weapon.
According to the report, deputies responded to a call at 6:58 p.m. on the 100 block of Holly Springs Lane. When they arrived, they spoke with Smith, who said he came home and saw his 37-year-old stepson and told him to clean his room. He said his stepson cussed at him so Smith picked up the trash can and told him to pick up the trash.
Smith said his stepson then pushed him out of the room and hit him on the head.
According to the report, Smith's 57-year-old wife then tried to intervene and Smith threatened to kill both of them. Both ran from the home while Smith was getting a .22-caliber rifle, according to the report.
