Lufkin creates first annual Christmas festival "Yule Love Lufkin"

LUFKIN, TX (KTRE) - With February melting into March, it's never too early to start planning Christmas. At least, for Lufkin it's not.

The City of Lufkin has partnered with the Lufkin Convention and Visitors Bureau along with the Pitser Garrison Convention Center to create "Yule Love Lufkin, the city's first annual Christmas festival.

"We're thrilled to be bringing a new event ot the East Texas area," said Lufkin Convention and Visitors Bureau Director Tara Watson-Watkins. "You know there's not a lot to do at Christmas for East Texas, and so we are really hoping to become a new festival that people in the region will come to."

According to Watson-Watkins, the city has been looking for something to showcase the pavilion at the convention center for a while, and that a Christmas festival seemed like a perfect fit.

"We looked at bringing something to Lufkin that families could take advantage of," said Convention Center Director Brant Lee. "It's really just a family atmosphere that we're trying to provide and a Christmas festival is the perfect place for that."

Organizers are planning on having an ice skating rink, a life-sized snow globe, live music, tree lighting, Christmas movies, breakfast with Santa, and plenty of other holiday activities for families to enjoy.

"We're really trying to get the community involved. We're looking for partners to come on board. We're looking for different businesses that want to get their name out there," Watson-Watkins said. "We would love for anyone that wants to volunteer and give back to a great time of year."

The festival will be held December 18th-21st at the Convention Center.

"We're really excited. This should be a great event too," Lee said. "We're looking for it really to grow and become an annual event and we're thinking that this is something that can be a staple in Lufkin for a really long time."
