Unemployment in Deep East Texas rises

EAST TEXAS (KTRE) - Holiday layoffs are apparent in the latest unemployment numbers, as they rose sharply across the board in East Texas.

According to the Texas Workforce Commission, across the state, 4.6% of the workforce is jobless. In the Deep East Texas, the rate jumped to 5.8%

In Angelina County, the rate jumped half a point. In Nacogdoches County, it went from 4.1% to 4.8%.

These numbers do not reflect the recent layoffs at the Lufkin GE plants.
