Close Main Street!

The ongoing debate over where to have this summer's Nacogdoches Blueberry Festival has been settled. City commissioners now say 'close Main Street' and let the fun begin.

The change of heart came after blueberry sponsors and participants pleaded with commissioners to change their earlier vote not to close the streets. Eventually they were convinced.

No stipulations are being placed on organizers other than to come up with a uniform festival plan for street closures.

Festival Chairperson Darla O'Neill said, "The Blueberry Festival and some of the other festivals in town meet with the city people and try to come up with some guidelines to follow and that way if a festival can fit in these guideline then they'll be able to close Main Street for their festival."

O'Neill says it's nice to be able to concentrate all her efforts toward Blueberry Festival planning. The festival's fifteenth year will be celebrated on June 10th and 11th.
