Zavalla Independent School District Faces Lawsuit

Employees of the Zavalla Independent School District are facing a federal lawsuit following disciplinary actions of a high school teenage boy.

A Zavalla parent and his son filed the suit because they want the boy's placement at an alternative school reversed.

The incident happened last April after a teacher accused two teens of participating in a "sex act" at school.

According to the lawsuit, the boy denies the allegation. The boy was punished by being put in an alternative school, and his dad believes that will hurt his advancement for college. They are suing for an undisclosed amount of damages caused by "defamation" and "emotional distress".

The East Texas News contacted Superintendent Mike Ford for comment, but he refused as long as the case is in litigation.
