ANGELINA COUNTY, TX (KTRE) - Deputies with the Angelina County Sheriff's Office have arrested a Diboll man accused of having sex with two underage girls, one of which he made a deal for the 11-year-old girl's virginity by trading a jacket.
Cody Clevenger, 21, is charged with first-degree aggravated sexual assault of a child and second-degree sexual assault of a child.
According to an arrest affidavit, an 11-year-old girl described sexual events done to her by Clevenger, saying that in October of 2013, she was visiting her friend and that her brother, who is friends with Clevenger, was also there. She said her brother blackmailed her into having sex with Clevenger by threatening to tell their mother about "other stuff" if she did not have sex with him.
Child Advocate Ashley Cook said child sex crimes like this one are not uncommon.
"With these crimes there is some sort of coercion, some sort of threat involved, rather it's an item or rather it's do this or I will treat someone you love a certain way or usually you will get in trouble," Cook said. "There is some sort of physiological threat that is involved in that and it is a form of control."
The girl said she heard Clevenger and her brother talking about trading her virginity for a red and white Adidas jacket.
The girl said her brother left her alone with Clevenger and they then had sex. A SANE nurse exam confirmed the girl has sex.
Cook said these crimes can be prevented by having an open line of communication.
"This all goes back to parents really working to open a healthy line of communication with their children. Parents telling their children that their body is their own and no one else has a right to touch that in any way," Cook said.
The girl also told deputies Clevenger had sex with her friend on a different occasion, which opened up another investigation, according to the arrest affidavit.
That affidavit states Clevenger had sex with a then-14 year-old girl in June of 2012.
Both arrest warrants were obtained on April 9, 2014. Clevenger was arrested on the charges on Monday. His bail has not yet been set.
Clevenger confessed to committing the two sexual assaults to authorities Monday, according to Lt. Pete Maskunas with the Angelina County Sheriff's Office. Makunas also said the ACSO is also investigating to see if any charges will be filed against the 11-year-old's brother.
