March 13, 2015 marked the 34th birthday of Sheila Morton. The Huntington-area woman worked at Logan's Roadhouse collectively for seven years until Mother's Day 2014. Two days later she went missing on June 2nd.

Her former coworkers at Logan's on Lufkin's South Loop are keeping hope as well as her spirit alive by hosting a birthday party in her honor.

Around 10:45 a.m. Friday, her coworker family gathered in a small portion of the restaurant, where they laid out a birthday spread of cakes, pigs in blankets, cookies, and other desserts that they know Morton loves.

“I don't know what to say about her. She's just a wonderful person,” said Melissa Adams, who's been at the restaurant more than a year and was trained by Morton.  “The birthday party is important because that's what she would like.”

Seven-year employee Kathi Andersen tearfully agreed.

“It's celebrating Sheila, just exactly the way she would've celebrated,” Andersen said with a somber sigh. “She would have been tickled to death to see everything there - all the memories.”

Staffers said they learned about Morton's disappearance when Angelina County Sheriff's deputies came to the restaurant last June as part of their investigation. Sheriff Greg Sanches called this case suspicious. From what his agency has gathered, Morton lived her for son, Hayden, who was three years-old when his mom went missing.

“She loved her child.  And that's unusual for a mother just to take off and leave a child like that,” Sheriff Sanches said. “That's why we feel like there is definitely something wrong. It's more than just a missing person when you've got a mother like that who is so close to her child to leave him like that.”

The sheriff also said not only is this case is still very active, but also, other agencies have joined in the search for Morton and answers on what happened.

“And our detectives are working with the Texas Rangers and any other law enforcement agency that has information, we're all working together as a team because that's what it takes to solve this crime or missing person at this time.”

Sanches said Morton was last seen off FM Road 843 in the Pollok area some three-to four-miles east of Highway 69 by her baby's father who lived in that area. According to detectives, Hayden who is now 4 years-old, lives with his father.

Meanwhile, her former coworkers are keeping hope alive as well as her spirit by hosting the all-day birthday remembrance, which they invited her former favorite customers to attend as well.

“I just hope people see this [story]. Stop and think. And if they have any information about Sheila, let somebody know, because we love her.  She's our friend,” said a tearful Andersen.

If you have any information - regardless how insignificant you think it may be - the sheriff said don't hesitate to call the sheriff's office.
