Lufkin Police officers have arrested three of four gang members who allegedly used a cinder block to beat a man and then put a gun to his head at the Trails Apartments in the 900 block of Crooked Creek Tuesday.
The three men were all arrested Wednesday. Attiba Jermain Nicholson Jr., 18, Xavier Dominique Shelvin, 19, and Milan Ramon White, 18, were all charged with second-degree felony aggravated assault with a deadly weapon. White was also charged with Class C misdemeanor possession of drug paraphernalia.
Nicholson and Shelvin's bail amounts were each set at $100,000. White's collective bail amount was set at $100,500.
According to the arrest affidavit, Lufkin Police officers were dispatched out to the Trails Apartments on Crook Creek in reference to suspicious activity at about 11:10 p.m. Tuesday. While the officers were on their way to the scene, dispatch told them that someone at the apartment complex had been assaulted and possibly shot with a gun.
When the LPD officers got to the scene, they found several people looking at blood spots near the entrance to the parking area between two of the buildings. The neighbors told the officers that they thought the victim had run inside one of the apartments and the four suspects had fled the scene in a green, four-door car.
Later, the officers made contact with the victim at the apartment the neighbors had directed them to. He told them that he had been outside smoking a cigarette when a "green-colored car with rims" pulled up, and four men jumped out of the vehicle and tried to beat him up.
The victim told police that he tried to outrun the four men, but they caught up to him between two of the buildings in the apartment complex. He told the LPD officers that the four men beat him with a cinder block and then put what felt like a gun to the back of his head, the affidavit stated.
When one of the officers asked the victim if he knew why the men beat him up, he told them that starting about six months ago, they had a "beef" with him because he was "running with the "Eastside Boys" and the suspects were with the "Savages," the affidavit stated.
The victim identified his four attackers as Nicholson, Shelvin, White, and Alfred Singletary, who is still at large, according to the affidavit.
The victim suffered a cut on his right eye, bruising in the right side of his face, and bleeding from his nose, mouth, and ears. The affidavit stated that the man was transported to Woodland Heights Medical Center and the extent of his injuries was still not known at the time police obtained the arrest warrant.
A witness told LPD officers that he went outside after he heard what he thought was a gunshot. He said he saw three men with their faces covered getting into a four-door, mid-sized car, the affidavit said. The witness reportedly didn't get a good look at the fourth man, who was driving the car.
A second witness told police he also heard what he thought was a gunshot as he was getting ready to go to sleep. When he came outside, he saw the suspects climbing into what he thought was a Toyota Camry.
LPD officers found an unspent 9 mm round believed to be from the suspects' gun and a piece of cinder block at the scene.
