NACOGDOCHES COUNTY, TX (KTRE) -

Dr. F.E. "Ab" Abernethy died Saturday at the age of 89. Abernethy was known as the "Trailblazer of Nacogdoches" for his famous work on the Lanana Creek and Banita Creek Trails.

Abernethy was honored just two weeks ago for a resolution passed by the Texas House and Senate that declared March 10th "Ab Abernethy Day."

A banquet was held in his honor in Nacogodoches by the Banita Creek Trail committee where he was given the key to the city by Mayor Roger Van Horn.

Services are pending at this time.
