Honduran man begins trial in Polk County Court for alleged sex-trafficking

POLK COUNTY, TX (KTRE) -

The sex trafficking trial for Ledys Geovanny Alvarenga-Sarmiento is set to begin Tuesday at 8 a.m, in Polk County.

Alvarenga-Sarmiento is currently being held in Polk County Jail on a felony of trafficking child/sexual conduct charges.

On Monday, the 12-person jury was selected for Alvarenga-Sarmiento's trial.

According to arrest records, Alvarango-Sarmiento, was shuttling a 16-year-old girl with him to Tennessee, after previously being arrested in Pennsylvania for child sex-trafficking, in late June.

Texas Department of Public Safety officials become aware of his whereabouts after his vehicle was pulled over for speeding on U.S. Highway 59 North in Polk County.

Since his arrest, both Child Protective Services and the Department of Homeland Security have been involved with him and the minor.
