The Lufkin Chamber of Commerce welcomed the East Texas Timber Rattlers, Lufkin's first professional indoor arena football team, with a ribbon cutting ceremony Wednesday morning.
The team stacked with lots of East Texas talent will have their first game against the Chicago Windy City Ravens. Players said the ribbon cutting has added to the excitement that's been building with starting the season.
“The ribbon cutting today made it seem like we're playing tomorrow,” said receiver William Tudmon .”The ribbon cutting was awesome, and out at the mall and Walmart, different places, people are like, ‘Man we're excited. We're going to come out and watch,' and my response is, ‘I'll give you a great show.'”
“It was very new to me and very exciting knowing the chamber has got our backs. I feel real good for the upcoming game this week,” said defensive tackle Ben Pope.
The Rattlers said they have made an effort during their preseason to interact with the community and said joining the Lufkin Chamber of Commerce is another step in that direction.
“I was excited to do the ribbon cutting. I've been excited about joining the chamber because I feel like being a part of the Chamber of Commerce brings you closer to the community,” said team owner Nancy Harvey.
“There's a lot of excitement. Sometimes I can't sleep. I know I can't, I don't know about the other guys. I'm ready,” said linebacker Jeremy Watts.
The Rattlers said this family friendly event will be at the Angelina County Expo Center starting at 7 o'clock this Saturday.
