NACOGDOCHES, TX (KTRE) -

The American Red Cross opened its new office in Nacogdoches Friday. It's located in Nacogdoches' City Hall.

Volunteers and supporters gathered outside for its ribbon cutting.

The Nacogdoches Red Cross is one of the region's oldest chapters established in 1917 under the authority of President Woodrow Wilson.

It's only fitting that the Nacogdoches Red Cross has an office considering how busy volunteers are these.

"First three months of this year ten home fires, 34 people and the Red Cross gave them over $7500 in emergency funding,” said Mike Butchko, a community volunteer leader for the Red Cross. “Well, they don't have an office to work out of. So this provides an office for them. It provides an office for training. It provides an office for people to come in and get referrals."

The American Red Cross office is on the first floor of Nacogdoches City Hall in Room 141.
