ANGELINA COUNTY, TX (KTRE) -

Angelina County Sheriff's Office deputies arrested a 49-year-old Lufkin man Saturday in connection to allegations that he slapped a 2-year-old child hard enough to leave a mark after the toddler bit him.

Hubert Higgins was booked into the Angelina County Jail on a felony injury to a child charge. He was released Sunday after he posted a bail amount of $5,000.

According to Capt. Alton Lenderman with the Angelina County Sheriff's Office, Higgins was outside with the toddler bit him, and he slapped the child.

“He admitted to the deputy that he did slap [the child] out of reaction but didn't think it was hard,” Lenderman said. “We called CPS and found out there was an open case.”

As result, Higgins was arrested.

Lenderman said the child's face was “extremely red” and had marks from his chin to his left ear.
