LUFKIN, TX (KTRE) - Though her friendly demeanor is her owner's favorite characteristic of her, Celine is not your average pet.
"We said well that would be a good name, maybe she'll be a star like Celine," said her owner, Rick Martin.
She's only two years old, and lives in Lufkin.
"We're very excited to have Celine. Really, she's just our family pet," said Martin. Well not quite.
"She's also a show dog," said Martin.
This month, after careful practice and preparation, she made her owners proud.
"Celine won Best of Breeds over all the Greyhounds in the country," said Martin.
Her owner Rick Martin says this is a huge accomplishment for East Texas. She represented us well in the Fort Worth Kennel Dog Show.
"It's a concentration of Greyhounds from all over the United States," said Martin.
Celine took the title though she's two years younger than the most of the competition. She was judged by her sleek looks, posture, and overall build.
"The definition of all over their body from their head, neck, how they move and gate," said Martin.
Martin says taking care of her well and keeping her happy at the competition contributed to Celine's success.
"You want them to go in the ring, act like they own it," said Martin.
That Celine did, but this is only the beginning. Celine is already working toward her next project. She wants to compete in the invitation only Westminster Kennel Dog Show in Madison Square Garden.
"We're really working this year so she will get an invitation," said Martin.
Martin says Celine not only holds the characteristics we admire in humans, unconditional love, forgiveness, and loyalty, but also star quality.
"She made us quite proud there," said Martin.
