Police-involved shooting in Nacogdoches; 2 hospitalized

NACOGDOCHES, TX (KTRE) - The Nacogdoches Police Department is investigating a double shooting that happened Tuesday night.

The incident was reported around 9:52 p.m. in the 4700 block of Warr Circle and E Spradley.

Upon arrival, the responding officer reported seeing Vyron Rashad Johns, 32, of Nacogdoches, and Letha Brewer, 30, of Nacogdoches, outside a residence. Johns appeared to be forcing Brewer into a vehicle, according to Nacogdoches Police. 

As the officer approached the vehicle, he heard a gunshot and reported seeing Brewer fall to the ground. She was shot and left with a wound to her upper body. Johns, armed with a handgun, attempted to re-enter the residence.The officer fired twice at Johns, striking him in the arm and lower body.

Both Brewer and Johns were taken to Nacogdoches Memorial Hospital.

As of 2 a.m., Brewer was undergoing treatment for her gunshot wound, while Johns was under police custody being treated for his gunshot wounds. 

According to Nacogdoches police, the officer involved in the shooting, who has not been identified, has been placed on administrative leave pending the complete investigation. The officer's leave is standard policy.  

The investigation has been turned over to Texas Rangers. NPD is doing its own internal investigation.
