LUFKIN, TX (KTRE) - Lufkin Police officers arrested a sixth suspect in a series of alleged run-ins between members of the Savages and the East Side Gang, two rival gangs, Wednesday after he allegedly led LPD officers on a car chase, caused an accident, and then fled on foot to avoid getting arrested.
The alleged run-ins between the two gangs include a fight, a drive-by shooting incident, and an assault.
Myster Willie Callaway, 18, of Lufkin, is still being held in the Angelina County Jail on three state-jail felony charges - engaging in organized criminal activity, evading arrest and detention, and accident involving injury or death. No bail amount has been set at this time.
According to the arrest affidavit, a Lufkin Police officer spotted a white vehicle with no front license plate at the intersection of Douglas and Grove streets at about 4:44 p.m. Tuesday. However, the driver of the car refused to stop and turned right onto Grove Street. At that point, the LPD officer hit his horn and siren in attempt to get the person to stop.

driver of the car continued on Grove Street and took a left on Bledsoe and almost collided with several oncoming vehicles. The affidavit stated that the driver was "driving erratically."
Later in the chase, the white car took a left on Ellis and headed back toward Raguet Drive. When the driver of the car made a right on Raguet Drive, he collided with a maroon pickup that had been stopped at the intersection, the affidavit stated.
The LPD officer radioed the accident in to dispatch and continued the pursuit. After a while, the vehicle turned onto Jefferson Street and pulled off to the left side of the road.
According to the affidavit, the passenger, a white man, and the driver, who was later identified as Callaway, bailed out of the vehicle and ran through a field toward Trout Street. Despite the officer giving them several commands to stop, the two men jumped two fences and got away.
Later, the LPD officer got in contact with a Lufkin ISD Police officer to see if he could help him identify either of the suspects. The LISD officer IDed the white suspect and provided his current address.
When LPD officers went to that address, they spoke to the young man and learned that Callaway, his friend, had gotten permission from an acquaintance to drive the vehicle and that they had been headed to the M&B Food Mart at 708 N. Raguet. The man told them Callaway had a warrant out for his arrest and that he wasn't going to stop, the affidavit stated.
The victim in the Chevrolet pickup was identified as Deborah Bowley. She was transported to CHI St. Luke's Memorial Hospital in Lufkin for treatment of her injuries.
So far, the Lufkin Police Department has also arrested Tyrique Spencer Hartfield, Keyshun Montgomery, Atiba Nicholson, Xavier Shelvin, and Milan White in connection to the alleged gang-related incidents.
