LUFKIN, TX (KTRE) - After 17 years at 106 S. Bynum, the Pregnancy Help Center will soon be moving.
The center announced that on April 1, the group entered into a contract to purchase a new building on Gaslight Blvd.
"This has been a five-year journey that has included looking at building plans and property to build, walking through some pretty dilapidated buildings with lots of work needed, and much prayer and petition to God regarding the issues with our current building," Director Paula Havard said.
Havard said the center, which helps families through pregnancy from conception all the way through early years of life, has outgrown the current location.
"We have several issues here," Havard said. "The foundation is cracked in several places. The hallway is narrow and is not up to ADA code. It is challenging when we have a client come in that is either larger is size and/or has disabilities physically that are harder to accommodate; it can be a little embarrassing to the client we are trying to serve."
Havard said the non-profit has 90 days to raise the funds for the new project that could cost over $600,000.
"We are looking to get a grant from a local institute," Havard said. "If we get it then we would only need to raise $317,500. I am confident God will work and get the money to come in for us."
