NACOGDOCHES, TX (KTRE) - Thursday's weather proved to be sunny, but quite windy, however it gave Nacogdoches Medical Center the right conditions to hold its outdoor 40th anniversary community party.
The medical center erected a big white tent and invited its staff, doctors and the community to mark its milestone in healthcare. NMC Chief Executive Officer Gary Stokes, who has been leading the hospital for a decade, said they had planned to hold the party in March, but it was too rainy for most of the month. He said they wanted to host the gathering out in the public and for the public. Stokes says their four decades of caring for East Texans will continue to grow.
"I think you're going to see more outpatient services. Basically reaching out to the community," the CEO said about NMC's focus. "Rather than just come to the hospital, we have a lot of outreach with our outpatient centers, our diagnostic imaging center, our surgery center that we have here; our free-standing ED in Center, Texas with an imaging center.
"Nacogdoches Medical Center's image and facilities have changed throughout the years. The original hospital cost five million dollars to build 40 years ago. Nacogdoches Medical started in 1975 with 15 local doctors. It now employs more than 450 people, including more than 150 doctors.
