The Lufkin Panthers boys' soccer team has made it back to the regional quarterfinals for the first time since 2002.
On Tuesday, the Pack will play Mt. Pleasant, a team they played during the preseason. The Panthers won that game 2-0.
A lot of season has been played since then and both teams recognize they have grown substantially. A chance at a state title, while being the East Texas representative is at stake.
“It's going to be very competitive. It's a shame because I think both teams have the caliber to go and represent our region, but we'll have to go ahead and get it on tomorrow,” said head coach Russell Shaw. “Somebody's going on and somebody's not.”
“They've played more games and that was just the start of the season. We have too obviously and we're on a really good streak. I'm really confident about this game,” said senior midfielder Omar Zamarripa.
The match is set to be played at Tyler Rose Stadium on Tuesday. Kickoff is set for 6 pm.
