NACOGDOCHES, TX (KTRE) - Long-time Stephen F. Austin State University professor and life-long Lumberjack fan Dr. June Irwin passed away Sunday, April 5th, in Nacogdoches.

Born in Laneville, Irwin earned her bachelor's degree in physical education from SFA, a master's degree from Texas Women's University  and a doctorate in education from the University of Indiana in Bloomington.

After teaching physical education at Tenaha, Nacogdoches, and Gaston High Schools, Irwin began her career at SFA in 1947, where she was a professor of health and physical education of women until she retired in 1985.

Irwin was an avid fan and supporter of the SFA football team and both the men's and women's basketball teams. She was inducted into the SFA Athletic Hall of Fame in 2010.

Services will be hosted by Cason Monk-Metcalf on Thursday April 16th in Nacogdoches, beginning with a family visitation at noon, followed by a memorial service at 2 pm. She will then be laid to rest at Lakewood Memorial Park Cemetery in Henderson.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests making a donation to the SFASU Irwin Ladyjack Managers Scholarship, a scholarship in her name.
