NACOGDOCHES, TX (KTRE) - Nacogdoches residents gathered this evening to be a part of the 15th annual Nacogdoches County Agriculture Appreciation and Awareness Banquet.
There were several awards given out to those who highlight the best of East Texas agriculture.
Several representatives were in attendance including U.S. Rep. Louis Gohmert. The keynote speaker was Sid Miller, the Texas Commissioner of Agriculture.
Miller spoke with the community to let everyone know what the Texas Department of Agriculture is doing to help East Texas.
"Dairies, broiler houses, egg houses, the whole thing. It's the glue that has held East Texas together all these years," said Sid Miller, the Texas Commissioner of Agriculture.
The Buck Lee family, was the recipient of the "Farm Family of the year award" sponsored by Tipton Ford.
Lee says agriculture is so important to his family, they've stuck with it for generations. He has four sons all in farming.
Scholarships were also awarded to SFA's College of Forestry and Agriculture students.
