NACOGDOCHES, TX (KTRE) - Stephen F. Austin State University fraternities and sororities joined forces with the Family Crisis Center and the S.A.V.E. Coalition to kick off their 'Walk a Mile in Her Shoes' event.
The women lined up along a path Tuesday, while the men traded their sneakers in for high heels in honor of Sexual Awareness Month.
The students walked in heels from the SFA Student Center all the way to the recreational center parking lot to raise awareness and understand women's experiences.
"We're out here we're going to walk a mile in heels and we're going to love it because it's a great way for our community to get together and learn about sexual assault because it's a growing problem and we're going to put a stop to it," said James Sadler Jackson, an SFA student.
SFA plans to continue this event every year.
It has the potential to be a huge event in the years to come, as hundreds of students and community members came out to show support.
