LUFKIN, TX (KTRE) - The KTRE Pineywoods Showdown is just around the corner, and for the first time ever, the Pineywoods Community Academy will make an appearance.
The school has only had their athletic program for three years, and this year four PCA players will take the court come Showdown time: Markus Garrett, Luke Collins, Jakob Smith and Justin Goins.
"Well its pretty cool that we get to come out here and play for the team," Collins said. "Be first. It's setting history for our own school. At first we didn't really like it didn't kind of hit us we were just gonna go play for another team and then we realized we get to represent Lufkin and we get to play with the best of Lufkin on a team so it was really cool. We were all excited when we first learned that."
The Showdown pits the top seniors of Angelina County against the top of Nacogdoches County in an all-star basketball game. The games will be held Monday, April 20, with the girls' game starting at 6 p.m., followed by the boys' game.
This is the seventh year KTRE is hosting the event.
