LUFKIN, TX (KTRE) - Not only do fans get to watch great basketball at the KTRE Pineywoods Showdown, but they get to see rivals become teammates.
While these guys have to act like teammates, they haven't forgotten about some of those battles they've had against each other.
"Use to play on a select team together with Trey Brooks like 7th, 8th, 9th grade," said Dakota West of Hudson. "Every day after practice we'd play one on one and I think the final record was like 7-1 me so he's pretty mad about that."
"Dakota's the main one," Brooks said. "We use to do one-on-one every day head up. We never took anything soft it was always serious that's my man right there."
"We have rivals," said Joel Badders of Central Heights. "There's some kids from Woden and Douglass that I've known for a while and so playing with them is weird. Hunter Whitehead, Trenton Carrigan and Hunter Lee, guys that I've grown up playing against and kind of had a big rivalry going on living in kind of the same town but still playing each other."
The Showdown will be Monday, April 20, at Lufkin Panther Gym.
The girls game will start at 6 p.m. and the boys game will follow after that.
Admission is $5 at the door but children under 5 get in free.
