ANGELINA COUNTY, TX (KTRE) -

The Angelina County Sheriff's Office has charged a Lufkin man accused of abusing a four-year-old boy in March.

James Hulen Hector Sr., 49, is charged with third-degree injury to a child.

According to the arrest affidavit, a deputy responded to a home on a welfare check and interviewed Hector. The affidavit states while doing so, the child walked toward him and he asked the child what happened and the child said, "his daddy was mean and hit him."

The deputy then asked Hector what happened and Hector said it happened earlier in the day when they were roughhousing. He said he threw the child onto the bed, causing the boy to fall into the headboard, which caused the injury to his eye, according to the affidavit. The deputy said he was told by the mother that the injury occurred at a hospital earlier in the week.

The deputy then interviewed the mother, who said the boy walked in crying. She said she asked him about the injury, and he said Hector hit him. She said she took a picture of the injury and sent it to her grandmother. Later, law enforcement arrived at her doorstep. She said she was very scared of Hector and what he would do to her or the children. She also said Hector called her and told her he was willing to get counseling for what he did.

The deputy said he questioned the mother about the other bruises and she said she questioned the boy about them and he said Hector "did it." She said the boy demonstrated what he did by getting on his hands and knees on the ground and said Hector slammed it on the ground three or four times. She said she believed it happened on the same day in which Hector hit the boy in the left eye with a closed fist.

The deputy then interviewed the boy, who said "Jay hit me" and that he said, "I'm fixing to hit you" right before he did it.

A warrant for Hector's arrest was obtained on April 9. He was booked into the Angelina County Jail on Wednesday and posted bond.
