NACOGDOCHES COUNTY, TX (KTRE) - Nacogdoches County Sheriff's deputies arrested a married couple Thursday after they made a 911 call about a suspicious person and allegedly turned out to be high on methamphetamine, despite the fact that there was a 3-year-old child in their home.
Reese Alan Beard, 25, of Chireno, and Jamie Lynn Beard, 28, of Woodville, are still being held in the Angelina County Jail. Reese Beard was charged with second-degree felony endangering a child, third-degree felony possession of a controlled substance, and Class A misdemeanor unlawful possession of a firearm. Jamie Beard was charged with second-degree felony endangering a child.
No bail has been set for either suspect at this time.
According to a press release, the investigation started on April 5, when deputies were dispatched to a residence on County Road 808 in reference to a suspicious person. When deputies arrived on the scene, Reese and Jamie Beard told them they believed someone was under their house.
The NCSO deputies didn't see any sign of criminal activity or that someone was trying to break into the home.
Further investigation revealed that the couple appeared to be "impaired on methamphetamine and were very paranoid." Both Reese and Jamie admitted to the deputies that they had used meth earlier that day, the press release stated.
The press release stated that the living conditions inside the home were poor and that glass and other harmful items that could hurt a child were lying on the floor.
Someone from Child Protective Services removed the 3-year-old child from the scene.
According to the press release, NCSO deputies and CPS officials investigated Reese and Jamie Beard. Both people allegedly tested positive for meth, as did the 3-year-old child.
On April 14, NCSO deputies got endangering a child arrest warrants for Reese and Jamie Beard, and they were located at a storage facility in Nacogdoches. At the time of the arrest, Reese beard was found to be in possession of crystal meth and a loaded pistol, according to the press release.
Both Reese and Jamie Beard were then taken to the Nacogdoches County Jail.
