NACOGDOCHES, TX (KTRE) - Sunday's hail storm hit Facebook sites as fast as it hit Nacogdoches.
Hail stone size was compared first, followed by hail stone damage. Rex Perry Autoplex on the north loop seems to have weathered the worst of it.
"We got a call from a customer Sunday afternoon around six o'clock saying that they were at the dealership and there was some hail falling," said Perry.
Not really thinking much of it, Perry didn't survey the damage until the next morning. He was surprised to find a few busted windshields and sunroofs. Other damage wasn't as serious, but happened to just about every one of the 300 plus vehicles on the lot.
"Got most every car, got a little ding on it somewhere. Some more than one, but they'll come along and fix those areas," said Perry.
Hail technician Dale Taylor is repairing damage for individuals and dealers. He normally travels far away to repair hail damage. This week Taylor can stay in his own backyard.
"The majority of it is getting to your dent for one thing. It's just a really gentle process. You start at the center and work it up a little at a time. It's very quick and efficient for the vehicle owner," illustrated Taylor as he used long tools to extend his reach during a repair.
In the automobile industry hail storms is oddly enough considered 'good luck'.
"At the end of the day when all the cars are repaired and just as good as new, can't even tell they had any damage done it turns out to be a really good deal for the customer," said Perry.
A property disclosure statement is almost always followed by a reduced price. That news is good for dealership sales and gives customers a sunny disposition.
Rex Perry Autoplex is offering a community service going tomorrow thru Saturday. Any vehicle owner whose car was damaged during Sunday's storm can come by and have it repaired by the hail damage crew that will be on site. On site insurance adjusters will provide damage assessments or the vehicle owners can use their own insurance adjustor.
